Differences between Lumineers and Traditional Veneers

Differences between Lumineers and Traditional VeneersDr. Mirani, cosmetic dentist in Beverly Hills, sees many patients who are interested in enhancing or perfecting their smiles. We offer a variety of treatments that can help them reach their goals, including Lumineers and dental veneers. Both Lumineers and dental veneers can be used to improve the appearance of teeth that are stained, gapped, misshapen, misaligned or otherwise damaged. Some differences exist, however.

1. Lumineers are made of a special kind of ultra-thin dental porcelain called Cerinate porcelain. Traditional dental veneers can be made of either porcelain or composite resin, and they are thicker than Lumineers, which can be made thinner than a contact lens.

2. Traditional dental veneers require a careful altering of the dental enamel to allow for more comfortable placement of the restorations. Lumineers generally require no trimming or shaping of the dental enamel. In fact, they can be placed right over your own natural teeth.

3. Lumineers can often be placed without the need for shots or discomfort, and because less or no enamel is removed, the risk of post-procedure sensitivity is greatly reduced.

Dr. Mirani, specialist in porcelain veneers in Beverly Hills, can help you determine whether porcelain veneers or Lumineers can help you achieve the results you desire. Contact our dental office today to schedule your consultation.
